ABOUT US

A Brief Summary

Football has been played at New Romney FC as far back as 1890.  In 1905 the Club joined the Ashford League, which was its first year of competitive Football.  Two World Wars forced the Club to give up its ground in Station Road, only getting it back in 1926 after WWI.  The sport was played there again until the 2nd World War when the pitch had to be ploughed up for food production and the Pavillion used by the WVS to provide food etc for our Armed Forces.

After the War the club re-established itself and formed 3 senior sides, playing football once again in both the Folkestone and Ashford Leagues.  The ground in Station Road was not available to the Club until 1947, however, has now been our permanent home for aver 70 years.  Some Club members including Groundsmen, Presidents, Committee Members and Supporters have lifelong family involvements with the club dating back to its early days and now we are all looking forward to forging ahead in to a new era for the Club, focusing on expanding it’s Youth Section.

On the field the Club has enjoyed past success as Premier and Floodlit Cup Winners (the latter on 3 occasions).  In particular the new Youth Sides are very successful, bringing to the Club between them many past League, Cup and Tournament trophies so exciting days are forecast in the future of New Romney Football Club.  Our Clubhouse on the Station Road ground provides facilities, not only for football and cricket, but for the whole community.

We are truly a local Youth Football Club providing football for all young people (both boys and girls) on the Romney Marsh including those with disabilities for ages U5 to U14. Senior football teams available through New Romney FC.
With qualified coaches, players train once a week and enter competition matches with the Ashford Youth League.
We welcome enquiries from any budding young footballers, managers / coaches or anyone who is interested in joining the club to promote Youth Football on the Marsh. It is a fantastic opportunity for our younger (and older) population to get involved in sport with a passion and be part of a club with a fantastic future! Bring on the Silverware…..
